Why more people are trading the 9-5 grind to earn an income online than ever before.

It’s simple really, who wouldn’t want to stay “goodbye” to the 9-5 grind, the long and painful commute to and from work to a job that’s not fulfilling and replace that with hours of your choice whilst working from where ever the hell you like on something that you’re passionate about?

Earning an income from your laptop is certainly an attractive idea, and advances in technology have made it much easier for the average person to start their own online business, seriously, just google “best ways to make money online” and you’ll find a plethora of ideas, here are just a few.

  • Affiliate marketing.
  • Content creator.
  • Social media manager.
  • trading bonds or stock.
  • Amazon FBA.
  • Blogger, YouTuber, Vlogger.
  • Freelancer in the “Gig” economy through sites like Fiverr, UpWork or other similar sites where Artists, designers, copywriters, musicians and just about anyone can offer their skills for short contract work from their laptop.

These days you don’t even have to be that great with computers! I know of a 12-year-old who makes more money than most doctors because he started a youtube channel cutting things in half for crying out loud! yes, you’ve probably seen some of his videos. That said there are a few things that you should know before you quit your day job and dive into the world of making money online.

Lol, I’m not actually in my bed, I’m in a hotel lobby in a cute village called Beddgelert in Wales, this is me right now.

Now before you go on I want to be 100% transparent, the links in this post are affiliate links. This means that if you buy anything from those links, I’ll earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only link to stuff I’ve actually used and never endorse crap. I’m more than happy to help you learn how to do this yourself and of course, your support helps me keep the site going and to continue writing useful content from the comfort of my bed 😉

1. It’s not easy, especially in the beginning.

Beware of anyone telling you otherwise. It took me 6 months of invested time and money to learn how to earn my first dollar online, so if you’re looking for a get rich quick scheme, chances are you are going to find a “get ripped off quick” scheme.

For me, it was the idea of geographical freedom that kept me going!

If you’re not willing to put that effort in, I honestly suggest you stick to your 9-5, however like anything that you invest time and effort into, it does get easier with time, you just need to make sure your reason is strong enough to get momentum going, for some people that might be to get out of the rat race or simply being their own boss and living life on their own terms!

Either way, once you’ve mastered the skills, the content you put out there is working for you 24/7 all over the world, for example, this blog, once uploaded it’s there forever, and as long as people see value in what you post about and continue to purchase products through the links you share, you can literally earn money whilst you sleep, and from anywhere in the world!

2. Beware of scams!.

Some are pretty obvious but you would be surprised how convincing some of these scams can be, so how do you know which is a legitimate opportunity and which is a scam?

  1. Don’t fall for fear of loss trick- A common technique used to scare you into action is what’s called “fear of loss”, basically the idea is to give you the impression that if you don’t act there and then, you’ll “miss out on this amazing opportunity”. If an opportunity really is that good, they should be able to inspire you to act, not give you the impression that it’s now or never. If they don’t give you enough time to do a quick google search to find out what others have said about the company/product or opportunity then the chances are it isn’t worth doing anyway or, it’s simply a scam.
  2. Do your due diligence. –One skill that everyone needs to get good at in this day and age is fact-checking, it isn’t hard, we have all the information we need literally at our fingertips. Before you buy into anything, simply do a bit of googling.
  3. Use your common sense – It is worth noting that people do put bad reviews on good products, so read between the lines and, you will find enough information to use your own judgment and at least make a more rounded, less emotional, educated decision. Here are a few reasons why a bad review might be on a good product-
  • A competitor trying to unfairly tarnish the product, this will often be followed up with them adding a link to “a real opportunity”.
  • Someone hoping it was going to make them rich with little effort.
  • They aren’t the sharpest tool in the shed. You can often tell by the way they speak.

“If something seems too good to be true then chances are it is

3. Great opportunities do exist.

To some people the idea of being able to make money whilst you sleep or from your laptop from the comfort of… where ever the hell you like, may seem too good to be true, but I assure you it’s not. like I mentioned earlier, if you click on links in blogs or content that I create, not always but often I may have an affiliate agreement with those sites, meaning if you buy something from them, they will pay me a small commission for anything that you buy at no extra cost to you, yes, even if I’m asleep.

For example, ever shopped on Amazon or eBay? I’m guessing yes, now;

a) You can go directly to Amazon, purchase something and let’s say it costs you $50, Amazon will charge the product provider a cut for selling the item on their platform and for fulfilling the order or;

b) You might click on a link through a youtube channel or a blog like this one doing a review on that product and buy the same thing, still only pay $50, Amazon will still charge the same fee to the product provider, however the person who did the review or blog (like me) that directed you to the Amazon or eBay page will automatically receive a small commission out of the fee Amazons charged the supplier.

Pretty cool hey? In essence, it’s just one form of online marketing and sales.

On that note, if you like what I’ve just taught you, and have been thinking about buying something on Amazon or eBay, maybe some electronics or something for your kitchen? if you go through one of my links here, it’s the best way you can thank me 😉 cheeky I know, but hey, it comes out of Amazon’s pocket not yours, and you’re helping me to continue creating useful content and live the dream! just being honest 🙂

Watch out for the “Cookies” monster

One last thing, you may notice that once you start researching this topic, all of a sudden you will start seeing ads for similar or related opportunities being advertised all over your social media or computer screen, this is due to the “cookies” which are messages that web servers pass to your web browser when you search or visit Internet sites meaning companies AND SCAMMERS will know when you are looking for “ways to make money online“, so remember what I’ve told you, be vigilant have fun and come join the digital economy movement.
